Athletico comes storms back from behind to win in the Copa Sul-Americana
In a thrilling match, Athletico Paranaense came from behind 🌜 to defeat Sportivo Ameliano of Paraguay 4-1 in the first match of the Copa Sul-Americana group stage, held at the 🌜 La Olla stadium in Asunción, Paraguay.
The match got off to a thrilling start, with Athletico pressing high up the field 🌜 and creating scoring opportunities. However, it was Sportivo Ameliano who opened the scoring, with a goal from Fredy Vera in 🌜 the 10th minute. But Athletico didn'p panic and continued to press, and their efforts paid off in the 16th minute 🌜 when Bruno Zapelli scored the equalizer. Fernandinho added a second goal for Athletico just before halftime, giving them a 2-1 🌜 lead at the break.
In the second half, Athletico continued to control the match, and their pressure paid off in the 🌜 28th minute when Lucas Esquivel found Gonzalo Mastriani inside the area, who headed the ball into the net to make 🌜 it 3-1. Mastriani added his second goal of the match in the 42nd minute, sealing the 4-1 victory for Athletico.
With 🌜 this win, Athletico leads Group E of the Copa Sul-Americana with three points, and will next face Maringá in the 🌜 Paranaense Championship on Saturday.
